[libreoffice-users] Cursor disappears after changing keyboards with super+space
I use LibreOffice on Linux (specifically Pop_OS). In Writer, I make frequent use of the keyboard shortcut super+space to switch between an English keyboard and Greek (polytonic): I often switch between Greek and English two or three times in a sentence. As of today, after a system update (I didn't notice any LibreOffice files being updated), when I do the switch I can no longer just continue typing with the new keyboard: the keyboard is effectively dead. Instead, I have to move the cursor back to the place I was previously at and click to continue. This is more than a little annoying, since it removes the convenience of using the keyboard shortcut. Does anyone know what causes this? -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: http://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
Re: [libreoffice-users] Cursor disappears after changing keyboards with super+space
After I did nothing at all (so far as I can tell) to fix my problem about super+space and a disappearing cursor, the problem itself just disappeared. So, in the words of Emily Litella, 'Never mind'. (Sorry to have taken up space with this). Until it comes back ... Re: [libreoffice-users] Cursor disappears after changing keyboards with super+space
My problem with the keyboard-switching shortcut is, I'm now sure, probably a LibreOffice problem. It does not occur in applications like emacs or vi, or in a terminal, or in gedit, or in Abiword. It's a problem that may sound trivial, but it is a major problem to me, since I spend a great deal of my time writing documents that consist of English (or other modern European language) text interspersed with polytonic (classical) Greek. Prior to this problem, making the switch involved just a keystroke (well, a two-key stroke, super+space), with no need to move my hands away from the keyboard. Now, I have to drag the mouse cursor to the spot in the text I was just at and click. That's an annoyance for touch typing. As things are now, I'll switch Greek while writing and automatically continue typing without remembering that the cursor has disappeared (so those keystrokes go nowhere). If no one has a solution, it would be helpful to me if someone at least can verify it happens for them as well: if it really is just my system, On Mon, Feb 10, 2025 at 2:51 PM T. R. [libreoffice-users] keyboard switching problem, again
I sent a message a couple of weeks ago concerning a problem with keyboard switching in Writer (I use Linux, specifically Pop_OS, which is a version of Ubuntu). Using the keyboard shortcut (super+space) makes the text cursor disappear; I have to grab the mouse, click in the spot where I was typing, and then continue. This disappeared about two weeks ago, but now it's back. Previously, on the list I was assured this can't be a LibreOffice problem and must be a system problem. However, absolutely the only place it happens is in LibreOffice. Does anyone have any useful suggestions about it? (I frequently shift between English and polytonic (Classical) Greek keyboards mid-sentence, so this is a major annoyance). [libreoffice-users] super+shift keyboard change in LibreOffice Writer
I've written about this before; let me add some details. About a month ago, Writer (and *only* Writer) changed its behavior when I switch keyboards using super+space: now, the cursor disappears in the document I'm working on and no keyboard input is detected. Instead, I have to move the cursor (with the mouse) to the place in the text where I was editing and click it to get input back. This happens only in Writer, not in Calc, not in Impress, and not in any application I've tried so far outside OpenOffice. About two weeks ago, I noticed that the problem had gone away in *one* document I was editing (but not in the others--I usually have several open). That's no longer the case. Is there a configuration tweak I haven't been able to discover here? I realize the super+shift key binding is in Ubuntu, not LibreOffice, but my problem is in LibreOffice Writer. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: http://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
