Assuming you did not install the Flatpak version:
Go to the folder with the calc document in it. Right click an empty
space and select "Open in terminal". Then type this in the terminal and
enter:
libreoffice --calc
Does calc open? If so, close it. Is there any response in the terminal?
Then type this in the terminal and enter:
libreoffice --calc <filename>
Replace <filename> with the filename.

This year, I switched to Ubuntu, and I am having a problem with the
opening
of spreadsheet and other Libre Office files, though not with Writer, which
is what I use the most.
When I open a spreadsheet, the icon appears in the margin, but I cannot
actually open the document and get it to display. It must be a setting I
have somehow changed, for I used to be able to open up a spreadsheet, but
not any more.
Clearly, the file is somewhere, but I am not getting it to open up and
display on the screen.
